LOSSES FROM LAST YEAR ('47 stats):
PRESEASON OUTLOOK:
KU lost 51% of it's coring from the 1947 team, including
All-Americans Charlie Black and Ray Evans, plus stater Wendall
Clark and 6th man Owen Peck. However, Coach Allen is back
after missing the last half of the '47 season. Unfortunately,
the Hawks are very inexperienced, with only Otto Schnellbacher
as the only tried and tru veteran |
SEASON SUMMARY:
This was the year that Phog really stepped up his recruiting,
getting commitments from Bill Hougland of Beloit, Bill Lienhard
of Newton, Bob Kenney of Winfield, and Clyde Lovellette, of
Terre Haute , IN.On the court, however, it was a different
story. The season started with a jolt when Emporia State
whipped the Jayhawks 67-44 in the opener
