JO JO WHITE

JoJo White had only one semester of eligibility left heading into the 1968-69 season.  He played his last game for the Jayhawks on Feb. 1, 1969, in Allen Fieldhouse and scored a career-high 30 points against Colorado in an 80-70 victory.

KU won 80 percent of its games with him in the lineup.  He was an all-conference selection three times and a two-time All-American (1968, 1969).  White was something special from his first day at KU, Owens told the Topeka Capitol-Journal in January 1969:  “The first day he practiced was the first time I’d seen him play.  It was obvious he had a lot of poise for a young man just stepping in.  You couldn’t help but notice his movement … how graceful he was.”

White played 11 seasons in the NBA with Boston, Golden State and Kansas City, and his No. 10 jersey was retired by Boston.  He later returned to Kansas as an assistant coach.
