PRESEASON OUTLOOK:
The Jayhawks return only two starters, seniors guard Ryan
Robertson and forward T. J. Pugh. With the departure of
Raef LaFrentz, Paul Pierce and Billy Thomas (who collectively
scored more than half of KU's points in 1998, expectations for
this season are not as high as for the past two years.
Junior Nick Bradford, who spent last year backing up Pierce,
is a versatile player who likely will be a starter, along with
sophomores 6'5 G/F Kenny Gregory and 7'0 C Eric Chenowith.
Forward Lester Earl, 6'8, was one of KU's top reserves last year
and should add athleticism and rebounding to the team.
McDonald's All-American Jeff Boshee is a highly-touted
freshman point guard who shoots and distributes the ball very
well
KU's schedule is again one of the nation's toughest,
including Kentucky at the Great Eight tourney, UNLV at the
Tip-Off Classic, four difficult non-conference home games
at DePaul, Iowa, Gonzaga and Southern Cal, and four tough
non-conference away road games at Penn, St. Louis,
Massachusetts, and Illinois.
