PRESEASON OUTLOOK:

In spite of losing Greg Ostertag, KU's most prolific shot-blocker in Big 8 history, the Jayhawks enter the season ranked highly in the preseason polls, as they return 83% of their scoring.  Led by preseason All-American, point guard Jacque Vaughn, the Jayhawks also return the Big 8 Freshman of the Year (Raef LaFrentz) and the Big 8 Newcomer of the Year (Jerod Haase),  and welcome a highly touted freshman class, including Paul Pierce who should contribute immediately. Also returning are veterans Scot Pollard in the post, BJ Williams, Billy Thomas, and Sean Pearson on the wings.

KU's strength lies in the backcourt where the Jayhawks have the best starting guard combinations in the country, combined with experienced backups.

The non-conference schedule is demanding, with games against defending NCAA champ UCLA, Utah, Virginia, Temple and Florida.

SEASON SUMMARY:

The Jayhawks' 29 wins ties for third-most wins in KU history.

KU earned its 7th straight appearance in the NCAA tourney  its 4th straight appearance in the Sweet Sixteen, and third time in the Elite Eight in the past six seasons.

KU won the last Big 8 conference title.

Ku stretched its home winning streak to 29.

Jacque Vaughn and Jerod Haase both named Academic All-Americans.
