PRESEASON OUTLOOK:
KU lost their starting five from the 1943 squad, 14 players in all, representing 93.5% of the points scored.  Thus, the 1944 team has only three holdovers

"Several members of KU’s 1942-43 team that finished 10-0 in the Big Six went off to war after the season, including Charlie Black, Armand Dixon, Ray Evans and Otto Schnellbacher.  Their absence was obvious in the next season as KU fell to 17-9 overall and 5-5 in the Big Six."

SEASON SUMMARY:
Eleven of the 1944 squad were in the Navy V-12 program, a program designed to supplement the force of commissioned officers in the United States Navy during World War II. From the V-12 program, most of the Navy candidates went on to a four-month course at a reserve midshipmen's school,  Another two squad members were in the Navy NV-5 program, training to be aviators.
