SEASON SUMMARY:

In 1927, Phog Allen recruited 7’0 Harry Kersenbrock.  He was a giant in an era when tall centers went 6’4.  Allen drilled him into shape by working him against two tough football guards his freshman year.  Unfortunately, he was lost in a drowning accident during the summer before his Sophomore debut.  The grieved coach and team never recovered that year, going 3-15 for the worst season record in Jayhawk history.

Allen Shapes Basketball

The Joint Basketball Rules Committee voted unanimously to limit the dribble to a single bounce. Phog Allen led opponents of it and called for a meeting of all concerned which led to the National Association of Basketball Coaches in 1927. Allen was also greatly responsible for making basketball an Olympic sport, beginning in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.
