Dr. Lynwood H. Smith, 72, Lawrence, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital. Dr. Smith was an internal medicine physician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., for 35 years before he retired.
In the years since Lynwood Smith left the Hill, he's enjoyed a long and successful medical career at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Lyn and his wife and schoolmate, Marty Waddell Smith, retired in Lawrence, where he helped found the New Generation Society, an organization that involves retired alumni and friends of KU in the university community. Lyn also serves on the Alumni Association's national board of directors. The Smiths have four children and four grandchildren.
