Cath lab named for Kindred
The KU Hospital has announced plans to name a catheterization laboratory in the new $77 million Center for Advanced Heart Care for Dr. Lynn Kindred, a KU alumnus and long-time heart specialist.
Kindred received an undergraduate chemistry degree in 1959 and graduated from the KU School of Medicine in 1963. He played on the KU basketball team from 1955 to 1959 and was a teammate of Wilt Chamberlain.
The fundraising goal for the lab is $1.5 million. It will provide the lab and state-of-the-art equipment.
The lab is being named for him because Kindred spent much of the early part of his career in the cath lab performing interventional cardiology. The 238,000 square foot heart center is scheduled to be completed in the fall.
