DICK GISEL
Our next honoree stands exclusively in
his own club. He is the only Blue Dragon in history to play in the NJCAA
Tournament and later coach the Blue Dragon to an NJCAA Tournament appearance.
He played for the Hutchinson in 1956-57 and 1957-58. This honoree was named to
the 1958 NJCAA All-Tournament team after leading the Blue Dragons to a
sixth-place finish.
He later was an assistant for coach Gene Keady. After Keady’s departure in 1974,
he was promoted and became the fifth head coach in Blue Dragon history. He
guided the 1975 Blue Dragons to an eighth-place finish in the NJCAA Tournament.
During his four years as head coach, he amassed an 84-38 record, leading Hutch
to three Jayhawk Conference championships.
