Former Kansas University basketball player Alex Galindo has chosen Florida International University as his transfer destination. Galindo, a 6-foot-7 freshman guard/forward, from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, will be reunited with FIU head coach Sergio Rouco, who was instrumental in bringing Galindo to the United States.

"He visited there and liked it a lot, better than the others," Galindo's mother, Socorro Rodriguez, said, indicating her son was bound for the Miami, Fla., school. He chose FIU over some of the schools -- Pitt, Rutgers, Miami -- he considered as a senior at St. Benedict's High in New Jersey.

Galindo averaged 4.3 points in 23 games a year ago. He announced plans to transfer on April 4, citing a desire to play closer to his hometown.  Galindo must sit out next season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules. His scholarship at KU will go to former walk-on, Christian Moody.
