Ex-Jayhawk Ostertag signs with Sacramento

J-W Staff Reports , Wednesday, July 21, 2004

Former Kansas University center Greg Ostertag signed with the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, leaving the Utah Jazz after nine seasons.  The terms of Ostertag's deal were not disclosed.

He signed with Sacramento the same day center Vlade Divac left the Kings to rejoin the Los Angeles Lakers.  "I'm excited about joining the Kings," said the 31-year-old Ostertag, who was selected by Utah in the first round of the 1995 NBA Draft.

"I hope everyone knows that I'm not going to replace Vlade with scoring and passing, but I will be rebounding, blocking shots and taking up space in the middle. Hopefully, I'll be able to help these guys reach their ultimate goal of winning a championship."  Ostertag averages 5.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks a game in 640 career contests.
